Pat HenryBethel Volunteer Fire Department mourns the loss of Firefighter Pat Henry.
Patrick Lee Henry, 61, of 160 Bethel Fishing Center Road, Hertford, died Wednesday morning, July 7, 2010, in Chowan Hospital.
Born in Bertie County, NC he was the son of the late Lee Stanley and Catherine Perry Henry. He was the co-owner of the Bethel Fishing Center for the last 18 years having previously retired from the US Coast Guard after 20 years as a CPO E-7 and later working as a captain on a tug boat for Union Camp. He was a member of the Perquimans County Volunteer Rescue Squad; the Perquimans Water Rescue Team; the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department; and a former member of the volunteer rescue squad and fire department in Currituck County. He was an aircraft pilot and a ham radio operator.
Survivors include his wife Mildred Ann LaPine Henry (married November 29, 1986); five daughters, Cindy LaPine of Sault Sainte Marie, MI, Velma LaPine of Cheboygan, MI, Cora Gugin of Saint Ignace, MI, Connie Chase of Coinjock, NC and Terry Johnson of Hertford; four sons, Lawrence Gugin of Hessell, MI, Roy Gugin of Reno, NV, Erick Henry and wife Susan of Aydlett, NC and Clifton Henry and wife Amanda of Hertford; a sister and her husband, Alice Wilson and Alan of Ahoskie; a brother and his wife, Lynn Henry and Rose of Windsor; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 156, Hertford, NC 27944.
